Last night was one of them.
A huge thank you to our fabulous panellists, Dr Ryan P. O’Donnell, Associate Professor Nathan Emmerich and Dr ShaoJie Jhou for an evening that was thoughtful, intellectually adventurous and super fascinating. Following “The Girl with All the Gifts”, we found ourselves discussing everything from fungi, animated and magic mushrooms to identity, and research ethics. We explored why fungi have become such compelling characters in stories about the end of the world, what parasites can tell us about individuality and whether the boundary between human and nonhuman is quite as clear as we’d like to think.
A special thank you also to Dr Dan Santos for a wonderful introduction, to the amazing team at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia and to our brilliant audience. Your questions were outstanding!!!
Until the next cinematic adventure! Join us for “Minority Report” on 18 November at 6 pm: https://www.nfsa.gov.au/whats-on/science-art-film-minority-report-4653
