Podcasting is just the beginning of Sci_Burst – we also speak at exciting public events and conferences about all things science and popular culture!
AI and Other Scientific Fables Symposium
In July 2024, we gave a talk on climate change fables and their calls to action at the ANU School of Cybernetics. We explored modern fables, like Bjorn Sturmberg’s Amy’s Balancing Act, and reimagined popular classics, like The Three Little Pigs through a scientific and sustainability lens.
Street Art, Science & Engagement
In July 2023, we spoke at an Unchartered Territory symposium about (solarpunk) street and science communication, alongside host and Popsicule head Dr Anna-Sophie Jürgens, Australian street artists Byrd and FaithSprays, and CPAS student Blake Thompson. We also launched a special podcast episode on street art and science engagement for this event – listen on Apple or Spotify!
Batman & Robin “Science.Art.Film.” Night
In November 2023, we were Q&A panellists for a screening of Schumacher’s 1997 Batman & Robin movie at the National Film and Sound Archive. We also launched a special podcast episode on science in comics and comic characters for this event – listen on Apple or Spotify!
Crime in Pop Culture Online Conference
In May 2024, we presented a paper on the parallels between the scientific method and crime fiction – and the genre’s scicomm potential! – at the University of New England’s crime and pop culture conference. Our paper builds on research from our podcast episode about the science and art of mysteries and puzzles, which you can listen to on Apple or Spotify!
