Last night at the NFSA Canberra, we went back to ‘Her’ – Spike Jonze’s strange, beautiful, weirdly funny and increasingly uncanny love story between a human and an AI. And WOW!
A huge THANK YOU to our absolutely brilliant panel: Dr Jess Herrington, PhD, Dr Ben Swift and Sui Jackson, who took us into some wonderfully unexpected territory – from consciousness and AI personality to ownership, creativity, asymmetrical relationships and the question of whether an AI can actually surprise us… or whether it can simply become very, very good at making us experience its behaviour as surprising.
The audience questions and comments were absolutely fantastic (!!) – thoughtful, provocative, wonderfully strange and occasionally sending the entire panel off in completely unexpected directions. It really is magic when an entire cinema starts thinking together!
And a massive thank you to the wonderful National Film and Sound Archive of Australia team for making another “Science. Art. Film.” night happen at the Arc Cinema. 🎬🧠✨
Book your seats now for our next “Science. Art. Film.” adventure – exploring our parasite-fungus relationships on Wed, Oct 28:
