Why do stories about extraterrestrial contact so often become stories about communication, misunderstanding and the limits of human knowledge? How do we think about the unknown – and how does music help us make sense of the world and its many meanings?
We had an extraordinary film night and discussion with “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”! ✨ A huge thank‑you to our phenomenal speakers, Professor Ken Lampl and Professor Colin Klein, for guiding us through music, philosophy, awe and the unknowable with such enthusiasm and insight. Our audience brought brilliant questions – thoughtful, curious, bold and wonderfully imaginative – and we even learned a surprising amount about life in the 1970s along the way. And, of course, huge appreciation as well for the cinema and NFSA team, whose care and professionalism turn events like this into something truly special!!
