Season 8 of “Science. Art. Film.” – What an extraordinary journey! This season took us from extraterrestrial mysteries to ecological techno-imaginaries, from desert isolation to dinosaur spectacle – and every single evening reminded us why cinema is such a powerful space for thinking about science, culture and the cultural meanings of science.

Across multiple sold-out events, we explored big questions with curiosity, imagination and openness: Why do stories about extraterrestrial contact so often become stories about communication, misunderstanding and the limits of human knowledge? How do we make sense of the unknown – and how does music help us interpret the world and its many meanings? How does cinema shape the ways we imagine science, technology and nature?

None of this would have been possible without our phenomenal speakers, whose expertise and enthusiasm lit up every discussion; our wonderfully engaged audiences (you totally rock!), who brought such thoughtful, imaginative and often brilliantly insightful questions; and the incredible team at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia. From programming and marketing to projection, ‘front-of-house’ and all the countless things that happen behind the scenes, it has been an absolute joy and privilege to work with you over the past four years. Thank you for making this series everything it is!!

I’m also deeply grateful to everyone who has supported “Science. Art. Film.” over the years. Watching what began as an idea grow into such a vibrant community of curious and engaged people has been one of the greatest joys of this series.

I already can’t wait to see where the next season will take us. More curiosity, more conversations, more unexpected connections between science, art and film… and, of course, more evenings at the cinema together! Stay tuned for Season 9!
