Science goes pop: The Whimsical Assemblage Art Edition

“The Whimsical Assemblage Art Edition” – a project developed with Dr Anna-Sophie Jürgens for our w/k series on “Visual Science Storytelling, Sequential Art & Illustrated Science Communication” (https://between-science-and-art.com/tag/illustrated-scicomm/)!

Canberra artists Houl (@HoulArt) and Britt Nichols (@brittamon) reimagine the research of Dr Dan Santos and mine to create art of science as emotionally rich and radically hopeful.

🎭 “Isolated and Restricted” by Houl – A moveable cardboard figure exploring “the isolated nature of the scientific process in relation to the restricted spaces this takes place in.” Whether it’s a sterile lab, garage biohacker setup, or Batman’s cave – isolation becomes connection.

🌱 “Vision of a Hopepunk Future” by Britt Nichols- A stunning “Cocktail of old National Geographic and vintage Playboy, documenting the world’s beauty and culture and desire” featuring robot labour, women tending seed vaults for the future, and life-serving tech – where hope meets science!

These exquisite artworks are blueprints for scientific re-enchantment ✨
